HELSINKI (Reuters) - Robust demand from emerging markets in Asia and Africa lifted third-quarter sales of all major handset vendors from the previous quarter, with companies expecting another sales boost from holiday shopping ahead.
All handset vendors combined shipped 285 million mobile phones in the July-September quarter, with strong demand in Asia and Africa lifting sales 12 percent from a year ago, research firm Strategy Analytics said on Thursday.

Verizon unveils iPhone rival
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless unveiled three new cell phones on Wednesday for the holiday season, including a high-end handset named Voyager that will compete with Apple Inc's iPhone.
The Voyager, made by LG Electronics, trumps the iPhone by offering faster wireless Web access. But in a nod to the Apple device, which is only available to AT&T Inc subscribers, it has a large touch screen and full Web browser.

Verizon Wireless Announces Four New Phones
Verizon Wireless announced Wednesday four new multimedia phones for music-lovers, consumers checking in with their businesses, and those who crave an iPhone but want to stay with Verizon.
"Whether customers are seeking a cool, hip, fashion-forward music phone," said chief marketing officer Mike Lanman in a statement, "a device that will help them stay connected to the office, or an entertainment-rich device that can also function in a business setting, we will have it."
